Oistins has reopened for both business and through traffic and the popular Friday night lime in the Bay Garden will go ahead as normal.

Acting Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw gave the green light for the reopening during a media conference in Christ Church earlier this evening as she updated the country on the cleanup efforts of a crude oil spill which occurred earlier in the day.

“So if you pass through Oistins tonight, you will obviously be able to enjoy the usual delicacies in Oistins, the business activity will continue and essentially we are proposing that the road reopen at four o’clock,” Bradshaw said.

“I think there are over 50 businesses or so that are impacted by the activities this morning and we’re just hopeful and I’m very glad that we’re able to get them back in operation for tonight and the rest of the weekend’s activities.”

Stressing it was a multi-agency collaboration Bradshaw said the natural supply to the area, which was turned off during the cleanup, was back on.

“We really do apologise for the inconvenience but just to say that it was really a measure of safety for people first and foremost and we’ve also been able to minimise the issues of people actually having any symptoms as a result of inhaling the gas fumes,” Bradshaw added.

She reiterated no oil spilled into the sea.

Chairman of Bay Garden Inc. Kemar Harris thanked the authorities for their efforts on behalf of the community.

“It also says the living spirit of Oistins town is authentic because when the call was made, those persons who are from the area came out and assisted without any murmur or complaint. So we still have love, we still have that tranquillity, we still have that community spirit within the space.” (SAT)
